User Experience Enhancements

The starting point.

The journey to elevate Airbase’s interface began with a simple yet pivotal challenge: to make more room for what’s important. Insightful user feedback and comprehensive analytics revealed a need to increase the product surface to accommodate essential features like spend analytics and vendor master, which demand more real estate for optimal functionality. To support better usability, our users were seeking more space, flexibility, and efficiency in their digital workspace.

This was not just a design overhaul but a strategic move to leverage new real estate effectively, reflecting a genuine opportunity to enhance user interaction and productivity. Advances in fluid layout offered us the opportunity to accomplish these objectives by taking a new approach to our user interface.

Flexible across devices.

The core of the fluid layout initiative was to transition from a fixed narrow layout of 1024 pixels in width to a fluid, adaptable layout of up to 1920 pixels. This transformation was not just about expanding the interface but enhancing its flexibility and usability to meet the diverse needs of our users across various devices.

“The new fluid layout feels natural and seamless. The collapsible sidebar navigation is a game-changer. It speeds up my workflow and makes it easy to switch between tasks without extra steps.”

Refined dashboard.

At the heart of fluid layout is a user-first philosophy. Every interface element was enhanced to create a more intuitive and accessible environment. The dashboard, a critical focal point, was enhanced significantly.

With these enhancements, we’ve made it easier for users to manage and track their tasks, all in one centralized dashboard.

Focused clarity: We’ve eliminated unnecessary clutter to create a cleaner interface that highlights the most important tasks for users. The dashboard now prominently displays items that require user action — such as requests pending approval, accounting tasks pending accountant actions, and transactions requiring attention — ensuring these critical tasks are front and center.

Dedicated personal panel: A new right panel dedicated solely to user-owned items has been introduced. This panel includes an easy way to access uploaded receipts, a summary of the user’s expense reports, and a list of the user’s submitted requests awaiting approval. Consolidating personal items and actions into a single accessible area streamlines the user’s daily tasks and enhances navigation efficiency.

Enhanced receipt management: We’ve simplified the process of uploading receipts directly from the dashboard. Users can now add receipts to new or existing expense reports through an integrated flow accessible directly from the dashboard. This reduces the need to navigate multiple pages, significantly reducing the time and effort involved in expense management.

Building with users.

Adopting an agile approach, the project was dynamic and responsive. Regular feedback cycles were integral with early adopters, allowing us to refine and adjust the layout continuously. This collaborative process ensured the end product was built with the users’ feedback, making every iteration better suited to their evolving needs.

“Airbase continues to surprise us with subtle, yet impactful, updates that enhance the overall user experience and productivity.”

The next frontier.

The launch of the fluid layout marks just the beginning of a broader vision and is a testament to Airbase’s commitment to continuous improvement and innovation. By adopting a user-first approach and embracing change, we aim to transform our platform and how users interact with Airbase more efficiently — designing not just for today but for the future of fintech interfaces and experiences.
